ย ย ย ย Andrzej Peter Peplinski was born 1845 in Wiele, Pomerania Provence, Poland to Valentinus Peplinski and Marianna Rozkowa. He was born a twin, and had an older sister. This region of Poland was controlled by Prussia at the time. Poles were discriminated in many ways by the Prussians including limiting the use of their native language, minimizing and in many cases forbidding religious customs, being forced through conscription to fight for Prussia in wars which they cared nothing for, and many other indignities. After serving in the Franco Prussian war, Peter married Julianne Bukowski of a neighboring village. In 1872 they had decided to make a new life in America and join their cousin Martin in Bay City Michigan, and escape the Prussian rule.

ย ย ย ย The two journeyed via Hamburg and arrived in Castle Rock (predecessor or Ellis Island) in June of 1872. They boarded a train for Buffalo shortly after arriving in NY, and then a steam ship through the Great Lakes to Saginaw Bay to meet Martin in Bay City MI. The journey seemed to be smooth and the young couple were on their way to the American dream it seemed.
